A Coast Guard Sector is a shore-based operational unit responsible for the execution of all Coast Guard missions within its Area of Responsibility (AOR). The Sector organization directly supports the Sector Commander in these duties and in the execution of the full range of Coast Guard missions, including Maritime Safety, Maritime Security, Protection of Natural Resources, Maritime Mobility, and National Defense. Sector Puget Sound’s AOR includes the three major commercial shipping ports of Seattle, Everett, and Tacoma. These three ports combined make up the 3rd largest shipping port in the U.S.
