ANNOUNCEMENT OF WASHINGTON STATE MARINE PILOT EXAMINATION FOR THE GRAYS HARBOR AND PUGET SOUND PILOTAGE DISTRICTS
On Monday April 8, 2024, the Washington State Board of Pilotage Commissioners (Board) will administer to qualified applicants a Written Examination to be followed by a Simulator Evaluation to those eligible. Applicants who meet or exceed the cut score set by the Board on the Written Examination and Simulator Evaluation will be placed on a waiting list to be called into a pilot training program as needed. Successful completion of a pilot training program is required to qualify for issuance of a state pilot license for the applicable Pilotage District. The Written Examination will be administered via live remote proctor in your local area and the Simulator Evaluation will be held in Seattle, Washington.
The objective of the Simulator Evaluation portion of the 2024 Washington State Marine Pilot Exam is to assess your overall skills as a captain. Simulator training or experience is not a prerequisite to passing the Washington State Marine Pilot Exam Simulator Evaluation. Limited guided simulation time (approximately 1 hour), as well as a broad outline of the skills to be assessed, will be provided to all candidates progressing to the Simulator Evaluation portion of the exam. The 2024 Washington State Marine Pilot Exam Simulation Evaluation is scheduled in the OSV (Offshore Supply Vessel) simulator at MITAGS West the week of April 22, 2024. In the event of technical problems or malfunctions affecting the OSV simulator prior to or during a Washington State Marine pilot applicant’s Simulation Evaluation, the Evaluation will be switched to one of the other two remaining simulators available at MITAGS West.
